BELÉM, capital of the state of PARÁ opens the gates of the AMAZON river for you. You will motor up theriver for more than 500 miles before arriving at “ALTER DO CHÃO”, also known as the Caribbean of the Amazon because of its clear waters and white sandy beaches.

You will in this way become one of those rare beings who will have had the luck to explore a mythic region : Amazonia, the actual lungs of the Earth.

  Dia do Senhor do Bonfim -  The Mercado Modelo and the Lacerda elevator that joins the lower town to the historic district of Pelourinho -  Mais uma vez o RIDS esta muito bem recebido nas instalações do Terminal -  Carnaval at Pelourinho -  Um saveiro, embarcação tradicional da Bahia -   

• do 04/12 para 06/12/10 : saidas para a travessia do Atlântico, para Salvador da Bahia.

Os veleiros deixarão Mindelo para o Atlântico e a linha do ecuador rumo a Salvador de Bahia, chegando antes do Natal (17 para 22/12/2010)

  Before you disembark be warned. The warmth of the Soure population’s welcome is exceptional -  Supermarket parking lot -   On Marajó there are 600,000 buffalo for 250,000 inhabitants -  Soure -

In the 1500s when the navigator Vicente Yanez Pinzon discovered the Amazon the best route for crossing Amazonia started here, at Pará, in the mouth of the most powerful river in the world, on whose banks was founded in 1616 what was to become the biggest Portuguese town on the equator : Belém do Pará.

Santarém is the second town in Pará.  It’s on the right bank of the river Tapajós.  It’s 900 kilometres west of Belém, the capital of the State of Pará and halfway to Manaus.

The Tapajós region is the centre of the “tapajonican” civilisation.  The town is situated plumb in the middle of an enormous water system and the majority of the population live beside water.
Afuá
  Shops in the street that runs alongside the river -  The main pier at Afuã -  nature15top -  At the weekend the square becomes the beach -  2, 3 or 4 wheels, all the means of transport here move by manpower alone -
