João Pessoa is the capital of the State of Paraíba in the North-east region. The town is situated at the easternmost extremity of the Americas. Nearby is its port, Cabedelo which is open to the Atlantic Ocean. The town is a principal commercial centre and amongst its main products are cement, shoes and cigars. Three little rivers cross the town: the Sanhaú, the Jaguaribe and the Timbó. There are magnificent beaches that are still unspoilt, Carapibus, Coqueirinho and Picãozinho.
