Situated 250/270 miles from Madeira Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands. It covers 2050 square kilometres and is 84 kilometres long by 50 kilometres wide. The island is triangular and is crossed by a rocky spine whose Teide peak (3718 metres) is Spain’s highest summit, covered in snow during the winter months and surrounded by the immense “Las Canadas” crater.
According to the proclamations of posters and leaflets Tenerife is “the island of contrasts”. This little scrap of land unites sea with mountain, tropical vegetation with arid desert, and the humidity of the plains with the pure air of the summits. During the stopover the boats assemble in the “MARINA DEL ATLANTICO” in the heart of the town at the bottom of the Plaza de España. It’s also an ideal place for a large victualing.
